Brief Bio
Dr. Behnaz Rezaie Ortakand has been serving as the Head of the Accounting Program, Lecturer, and Subject Coordinator at Kings Own Institute (KOI) in Sydney, Australia since 2014. She holds a Bachelor's in Statistics (1998), a Master of Professional Accounting (2013), and completed a Ph.D. in Business (Doctor of Philosophy) at the University of Notre Dame in 2025. Behnaz became a full member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) in 2020.
With extensive teaching experience at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels, Behnaz has contributed to a variety of academic institutions, including the University of Wollongong (UOW), Macquarie University, Federation University, Kent Institute, and the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Her teaching expertise spans a wide range of subjects, including Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and Business Statistics.
Her research interests are focused on Educational Data Analytics and Machine Learning, with her PhD research exploring these fields. She integrates real-world insights into her teaching, particularly in areas such as Budget Planning, Accounting, and Excel course development, enriching the academic experience for her students.
In addition to her teaching and research, Behnaz is actively involved in several key committees at KOI. She serves as a member on the Accounting Course Advisory Committee, where she provides valuable input to continuously enhance the Accounting program. She is also a member of the Learning and Teaching Committee, where she works to ensure a high-quality and rewarding educational experience for students at KOI.
