This subject is the endpoint of Research Methods of TESOL (TSL713). It focuses on generic and
linguistic aspects of linguistic scholarship. The students will closely examine various academic genres,
unpack their schematic structures, and investigate their registers. During tutorials, they will apply genericlinguistic
insights by writing various academic genres. They will also submit three assessment tasks to
provide formal evidence of their ability to analyse and write academic genres. The first and third
assessments will be evidence of students’ analytical and critical skills through writing while the second
assessment will be evidence of those skills via oral presentation. Thus, this subject is a combination of
theory and application, and writing and speaking.
Throughout the subject, students will work under the supervision of their teacher to gain various generic
and linguistic skills.
